Speaker of the Seimas receives Dutch and Greek Ambassadors

5 March 2012

Speaker of the Seimas, Irena Degutienė, received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Lithuania, H.E. Mr Kornelis Willem Spaans (the first photo), and the Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to Lithuania, H.E. Mr Michael- Eftstratios C. Daratzikis (photo at the botom), who have recently started their work in Lithuania.

The Dutch Ambassador notes he sees his mission as an opportunity to strengthen economic and cultural relations between the two countries. According to the Ambassador, the volume of bilateral trade has immensely expanded in the recent years; it rose by more than 40 per cent in the last year alone. The Ambassador expresses his conviction, nonetheless, that even better results could be achieved.

Speaker of the Seimas draws the Ambassador’s attention to the energy security projects that are important for Lithuania and underscores that support of partners within the European Union is extremely significant for our state. “The Netherlands’ approval and political support in implementing the projects increasing energy security is of critical importance”, Mrs Degutienė notes.

At the meeting with the Greek Ambassador most attention was devoted to the possibilities of cultural co-operation; societal changes in the face of new economic and cultural challenges were also discussed.
